Midnightsky Fibers is our contest host this month! I have had the rgeat pleasure to knit with their yarns in the past and it was an even greater pleasure to egage in this little joint venture with Jenn.
I hope Jenn doesn't mind, I am going to pick some extra special tidbits out of the newsletter I got the sparked this idea.
Midnightsky Fibers just got greener! Our host for our site is now carbon neutral AND working to reduce their own omissions. Yeah!
Midnightsky Fibers has also added a new recycling option to the site. Now, just for agreeing to recycle the packaging your order comes with, you will receive a credit for the next time you shop at Midnightsky
Fibers. Better yet, it can be in many forms, either by reusing, composting, recycling in a more conventional way, etc.

So there you have it! I'm very excited about this prize, I wish I could win it myself! Jenn Wisbeck has generously offered either a month of the handspun club or any item out of the naturally-dyed handspun section of her site, up to 20$

| Feature Company! Midnightsky Fibers |
When I first started Midnightsky Fibers over two years ago, I never dreamed I would get the chance to run a green business where I would be able to specialize in unique, handspun yarns, fibers, sock yarns, and monthly clubs. Nor did I think I would be able to get the chances I have had because of my business to expand on my fiber knowledge. A weaving class led to a class designing custom rugs for a client. From there, an internship with a well known natural dye studio fueled my ever growing love of creating custom colors and unusual blends for other fiber artists.
Needless to say, after nine months in a natural dye studio I was ready to move my business even more in the way of my own personal ethics! I have worked to make my business green while still making a consistent product, a hard balance between supply and environmentalism. Because I don’t want to breathe in the harsh chemicals or dyes sometimes used in both chemical and natural dye techniques, I use only dyes and mordants- the materials used to set the dye- which are safe for people and animals. My dye techniques are quite time intensive compared to chemical dyes. A long period of soaking and scouring, mordanting, curing (so the yarn better accepts dye), and finally, the dye itself, make up the bulk of the time preparing yarns and fibers for sale. The entire process can take as little as 5 or six hours per color of dye bath, though it typically takes several days at a minimum for the process to be complete.

| Plaudits
Came Back! |
You read right! Plaudits are back! I am sure some of you have noticed and already started playing with them and the now shop that accompanied their return. You can buy "stuff" ("stuff" because, well, it's fully digital, non-tangible "stuff") with your Plaudits (also referred to as credits in some areas of the shop) in the shop. It'll be fun!
For every post you make you get 10 Plaudits, and for each reply you get 8. That is subject to change, but we think it's reasonable. As in the past, there are a few boards that do not give a Plaudit return for posting, however, unlike in the past all boards that do give our Plaudits give out the same amount.
On to the goods!
When you click on the shop link at the top of the page (in between Calendar and Chat) it takes you to the Shop Home. From there you read a little intro eerily similar to what I've written above, see the 10 richest members and the 10 richest banking people. You also see a nav menu on the left.
Let's click on "Buy Stuff" first. Now you should see some images and a few drop down bars across the top (even with the "shop stuff" menu). Those drop down bars are convenient! Most of our items are sorted into categories, as of this printing they are
[All]
[Uncategorised]
Animals (6 items)
Attitude (6 items)
Celebrate! (3 items)
Dress Up (6 items
Food (14 items)
Gambling Man (4 items)
Luvvins (5 items)
Personalities (7 items)
Punk Rock (2 items)
Show Your Support (1 item)
Soap Box (1 item)
We plan on adding more items in the future. To the right of any item you will see it's price, how many are in stock, a Buy Now! link and a Who owns this item? link. Prices are all in Plaudits, stock was at my whim. There are a few items that do stuff (in Gambling Man only right now) but for the most part they are little things you can purchase to give out to friends or horde for yourself.
Now try clicking on "Your Inventory." Pretty simple, it's just a list of items you own and a way to do stuff with them. If you click on "Use Item" on a gift object it wont do anything. However, if you click on "Use Item" on an item from Gambling Man (and we will alert you if this changes as well!) it will gamble for you, giving or taking Plaudits. If you click on "Trade Item" you will have the opportunity to input the price you want for the item and essentially put it up for sale (the shop calls it trade). Your item will be listed on the trade centre page and once it is purchased you will get a note about it. It might pay off to purchase those rare items ;)
"Send Money to Someone" is pretty self explanatory. It is also on each and every post! So you can do this on a whim right from a post you see. Just type in the member name, how much you wanna send and a note if you would like.
"Send an Item to Someone" is much the same. Type in the member name, and choose the item you want to send from the drop down box. It must be an item you have in your personal inventory (so you have to buy it first).
"View Other Members' Inventory" is also self explanatory. Just type in the members name and click the button.
"Bank" I bet some of you will love the bank and some will hate it. Right now there is no fee for using it, no minimum deposit or withdraw. All accounts earn 2% interest per day.
"Trade Centre" we kind of already mentioned. It's the selling block pretty much. If you want to see if a sold out item is available, that's the place to look! |

Zine's
Back |
|
We're bringing the zine back! We'll be publishing quarterly
(Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct) and we'll be doing a mini newsletter
on off months (Feb, Mar, May, Jun, Aug, Sept, Nov &
Dec)
Our zine is member-made, so we need your submissions
to make it happen! Just like the main site, topics can
be anything. Check out any of our forum topics for inspiration.
Pregnancy & Birthing, Parenting, Kitchen information,
Holiday fluff, Home Ec, absolutely any of our topics,
and then some. You can write about how it affected you
when your dog died, or how you think moms who choose
to stay home are nuts, or how moms who chose to go to
work are missing out, or why it's the best thing in
the world to chew bubble gum while breastfeeding. I
am serious when I say whatever you want to write about
is fine.
Previous
zines also included crafty tutorials, poetry, short
stories, photography, recipes, interviews, pretty much
anything you might see in any other zine or publication.
Our zine is published as a PDF.
All submissions are to be sent to
syfanning@gmail.com Please make your subject
MamaZine so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle
They should either be done in word or contained in
the body of an email. Send pictures separately - as
either .JPG, .GIF, or .PSD Size doesn't matter as we
can re-size them to fit. |

Reviews |
| If
you have a business and are trying to get the word out,
you should consider having us review your product(s).
Having us review your product gets the word out about
you and your stuff. It lets people who may be considering
your stuff but aren't sure whether they want to buy
know that you have a great product.
The review will be featured in our newsletter which
is sent to everyone who is registered with us - not
just those who are active on the board. We also publish
the review on our main site which is accessible to the
entire web surfing public. We will include pictures
of your product, your web address and logo in our review.
We will also give you a copy of the review to use on
your site as a testimonial - provided you link back
to us.
If you are interested in submitting something for review,
please contact one of the admin. |
| Trader
- We have swpas ending soon, don't forget to rate! |
| We
have a Trader function now! If you go to someones
profile, there is positive, neutral and negative feedback.
We'll be implementing it as a system for swaps, sales
and bartering.
To leave feedback for another
user:
Go to that users profile. I am going to do a sample
one for Winter since she has sent me stuff.
First I will click on her user name in the member list.
I am now looking at her profile.
Then I am going to scroll down, and I'll see this (there
are some images as well, this is just text):

Long comment on your transaction:
I'll fill it out and click "Submit" and be
reloaded into a summery of Winters feedback.
Please refrain from leaving inaccurate feedback.
I am hoping this helps us with people using the ISO/Advertise
