| We've
been approached by multiple members with concerns that
other members are liars. Seeing as in real life we don't
have people to police our conversations, we aren't doing
it here. It is not our job to sniff out and remove objectionable
people, with the obvious exception of the safety of
the board and it's members.
If you think someone is a liar, you are welcome to
confront them politely about it (remember no personal
attacks) either on the board or via PM. If you are
uncomfortable with doing this, then contact an Admin,
however, we will probably just file it away and look
into it, not do your confronting for you.
If you are the liar, this is your chance to leave,
quietly and without public humiliation, before we
out you to the entire board. We have names, proof
and experience. We've done this before, and we are
not afraid to do it again.
So in the words of Suicide Machines, get along now/say
goodbye/you make me want to say so long now.
If you have reason to think that you are suspected
as one of the liars, you need to stop and examine
your actions here - 90% of us can say without a doubt
that we aren't suspected because we know that everything
we've said is genuinely true. So if you're afraid
you're suspected as a liar, maybe it's time for you
to change your way of acting in our community.
And instead of asking us "Do you think I am
the liar?" either confess and start with a clean
slate or get out. We are not answering any PMs that
ask if we think you are a liar, because if you have
to ask that, chances are you are a liar. |

Note |
Who else is excited school started? Sometimes
we all just need a break, whether it is a break from
the kids, from school, from work, from life even.
Sometimes it's just time to jump off of the ride we
call life and watch it pass on by for a little while.
Just don't forget to jump back on! A break is nice,
but eventually it just isn't healthy.
That said, we are done taking a break! Your Punky
Mom admin team has busted it's collective ass over
the past two months to come up with a new front page
(yes, again, and we think for the last time... for
now) and a brand spankin' new custom theme for the
forums and newsletter. We reached down and pulled
ourselves up by the boots and look what we discovered.
Underneath it all, we're still Punk Rock. We knew
we had it in us!
The main site and forums are still a work in progress,
but we think they look damn fine. Fine enough to debut
to the world.
We also want to take a moment to thank our generous
donating mamas. You can spot them by their
or their
Thanks in large to them, our new merch is in stock,
and will be in store soon! We've got brand new black
tees, brand new stickers, and our super-secret Save
The World bags coming soon - we really think you'll
flip over the new bags.

the Punky Moms |
Q.
I have a two year old who is very temperamental. He
throws tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He also
runs around hitting, biting, and pinching other children.
I just can't yell at him to stop because he will cry,
he also cries when I put him in timeout and it just
breaks my heart. What should I do?
A. Get a spine.
All two year olds are hellions. They need structure
and guidelines, and they look to you to provide it.
When they are infants, children see themselves as
the center of the universe, and rightly so. You jump
for their every cry and need because they are helpless
and that is your duty as a responsible parent.
Once they reach toddlerhood, things change. They
now must learn that they are not the center of the
universe – you, the parent, are the center of
their universe, and they must jump when you say so.
Toddlers are able to comprehend most of what they
are told, and can communicate their thoughts as well.
They also start pushing boundaries to test you and
see what they can and cannot do. It is your job as
the parent to set up boundaries to keep your child
safe and to bring him up as a mannerly and respectful
child.
When he throws a tantrum, he is looking for a reaction.
Any kind of reaction – negative or positive
– is giving him what he wants. The quickest
way to nip this behavior in the bud is to completely
ignore him when he throws tantrums. After several
times, he will realize that he’s not getting
anywhere with this tactic and will give it up.
The hitting, biting and pinching however cannot be
ignored. This behavior must not be tolerated and must
be dealt with swiftly and without mercy. When he hits/bites/pinches,
you immediately get at his eye level and firmly tell
him: “No! You do not bite people!” This
must immediately be followed by a consequence like
time out. Take him to his time out place and again
at eye level, tell him exactly why he is being put
in time out: “You are getting two minutes time
out for biting.” Then leave him there. At the
end of the time out, once again, get at his eye level
and reiterate the no biting rule, then make him go
and apologize to his victim.
It’s important to remember that you must be
firm and serious in tone when you are explaining the
no biting and the consequences to your son. If he
sees you laughing or wavering, he will not take you
seriously, and will think that this is either a game
or that he can continue to get away with this behavior.
You must also be consistent with your actions. You
cannot ever let him get away with this behavior otherwise,
you undermine all of your pervious work training him
that this behavior is not acceptable. This will not
be a fast or easy process, but you will get through
to him and he will learn not to act out in that manner.
You also need to pay attention to the circumstances
surrounding these violent outbursts. See if there
is a pattern – for example, does he tend to
hit or bite if he’s missed his nap? If so, you
know that you need to be more consistent in his sleep
schedule. It could be any number of things like sleep,
hunger, certain places or people that set him off.
Once you figure out what is causing this behavior,
you can control it.
